The Role and the Team:

As an Engineering Manager, ML Understanding, you will lead our ML Understanding team to unlock the full potential of Reddit’s vast content through cutting-edge AI. The MLU Team develops foundational AI models and leverages the latest advances in LLMs to deeply understand content and communities and represent users’ rich and varied interests. The team’s foundational work drives impact by enabling relevant, personalized experiences, enhanced insights, and accelerated development for Reddit product teams.

• Define Technical Vision & Strategy: Align cutting-edge AI solutions with Reddit’s product and business objectives.
• Team Leadership & Development: Coach and support development while growing the skills and impact of your team.
• Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities and communicate work.
• Technical Execution & Delivery: Oversee design, development, and optimization of ML pipelines, especially with LLMs.
• Platform & Infrastructure Collaboration: Work towards the next generation of AI-powered solutions with platform and infrastructure teams.
• Operational Excellence: Maintain system performance, reliability, and efficiency.

  Pay Transparency:
  This job posting may span more than one career level. In addition to the base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission.   Base Pay Range:
  $230,000—$322,000 USD

• 2+ years of experience building and managing high-performing machine learning teams.
• Deep hands-on experience working with machine learning models, specifically with Large Language Models (LLMs), and deploying them in large-scale production systems.
• Strong understanding of natural language processing, deep learning, transformer-based architectures, and AI model development.
• Ability to develop and communicate a clear, compelling technical strategy that supports broader company objectives and addresses the needs of internal customers.
• Passion for developing scalable, well-designed, and responsible AI solutions that drive business value.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical topics to diverse audiences and build strong relationships with cross-functional partners.
