The Methods Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Methods sub-department of the EPC pipeline project, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient, safe, and coordinated construction methodologies. This role involves overseeing temporary works, construction sequencing, equipment planning, and integration of safety and environmental considerations into design and execution.
The Methods Manager will report to the Technical Director.
Roles & Responsibilities
Management & Coordination
- Lead and manage the Methods Section (approx. 10 staff).
- Supervise the Temporary Works (TW) in design an later on in execution.
- Manage staffing, recruitment, and work programs of the Methods deliverables.
Construction Methodology
- Provide input to design Managers regarding temporary construction phases and site preferences.
- Define construction sequences aligned with the general schedule.
- Develop and coordinate the design of temporary structures.
- Define site installation layouts and follow-up.
- Specify required materials (formwork, etc.) and equipment (cranes, lifting plans, etc.).
- Integrate site-specific constraints into method development.
- Liaise with the EPC Director to break down the construction strategy into broad methods.
- Liaise with the Planner to support the development of a realistic and achievable construction EPC program.
- Liaise with the Plant Department to align plant allocation with program and method statements.
Temporary Works Oversight (EPC Phase)
- Coordinate, organize, and supervise TW decisions in design.
- Verify documentation and drawings used as references for TW inspections.
- Formulate and implement a detailed TW Inspection Plan.
- Participate in inspections related to manufacturing, construction, acceptance, and use of TWs.
- Determine the need for operating manuals or detailed instructions for complex TWs.
- Review changes in TW usage and refer to the Methods Manager for impact assessment and necessary modifications.
- Verify hold points and issue associated permits (e.g., permit to load, access, dismantle).
- Coordinate with TW Designers on deviations or alterations.
- Raise Temporary Works Alerts for repetitive deviations and initiate investigations after incidents.
Temporary Equipment (TE) Management
- Maintain the TE register and review documentation.
- Act as external control during TE lifecycle (fabrication, erection, operation, dismantling).
- Conduct planned and random inspections of TEs.
- Ensure documentation is reviewed and approved before activity commencement.
- Assist the Plant Manager as needed.
- Issue inspection reports or alerts and archive them.
- Ensure retention of documentation specified in the TE register for the project duration.
Change Management
- Review change requests related to TE and liaise with design Manager via the Technical Director as appropriate.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure safety aspects are addressed during the design phase (Safety in Design).
- Identify specific risks related to TE during inspections.
- Ensure TEs are safe to use and remain compliant throughout their lifecycle.
- Participate actively in the Safety in Design process.

- Proven experience in managing construction methods on large-scale EPC projects.
- Strong knowledge of temporary works, construction sequencing, and equipment planning.
- Familiarity with safety and environmental standards in design and execution.
- Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
