About the role
Description
Drive Financial Inclusion Across Africa as Our Next In-Store Promoter Manager/ Field Sale Manager
You've proven you can build high-performing retail teams. You hit targets. You develop people. You're probably successful by traditional measures.
But when was the last time your team's work changed someone's entire economic trajectory?
M-KOPA has reached 7 million customers across Africa—up from 5 million last year—unlocking $2+ billion in credit for people excluded from traditional financing. 86% report improved quality of life. 70% use our products to generate income. 55% are accessing these products for the first time.
We're not a startup. We're a certified B Corporation with 2,300+ employees, 35,000 agents, and proven operations across multiple African markets. We've assembled 2 million smartphones in Kenya. We've financed 4,000+ e-motorbikes saving riders $5.62 daily.
And we're accelerating toward 10 million customers..
Why This Role Exists Now:
You might have noticed we're hiring multiple roles. That's deliberate—the infrastructure that got us from 5M to 7M customers isn't the infrastructure that gets us to 10M. We're systematically building teams for our next phase.
This role exists because retail is where financial inclusion becomes real. Your teams won't just drive sales—they'll be the human face of financial transformation for customers taking their first step toward digital access.
What Makes This Different:
Your current reality: Optimize existing processes. Manage to KPIs others set. Impact measured purely in revenue.
This role: Build the playbook for how financial inclusion happens in retail across Africa. Shape regional strategy directly. Measure success in lives changed AND aggressive growth targets. Partner with retailers as equals.
Every person your team helps isn't just a transaction—it's someone gaining access to digital banking, education, remote work, and economic mobility they couldn't access before.
What You'll Do:
Lead brand ambassador teams across Johannesburg and Cape Town, building systems that make financing simple and dignified for first-time customers. Analyze performance data to systematize what works. Partner with major retailers on in-store experiences. Coach teams through complex customer conversations. Transform insights into regional strategy. Build career pathways for promoter talent.
What You Must Bring:
Extensive progressive experience leading retail or field sales teams with demonstrable records of exceeding targets while developing people
Proven ability to transform data into actionable strategy that moves business outcomes—you spot patterns others miss
Established expertise in South African retail partnerships with deep understanding of customer dynamics and what makes in-store experiences convert
The Reality:
This is demanding work—you'll juggle team development, partnerships, metrics, and strategy simultaneously. The pace is intense. Systems are still being built. You'll need to thrive in ambiguity with significant autonomy.
But you'll work with 20+ nationalities solving problems without playbooks. Your ideas get tested quickly. Your trajectory is limited only by our growth to 10M customers.
If you're thinking "I wasn't looking, but this is different enough to explore"—that's the signal. Let's talk.
