Nilmini was Senior Advisor on the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and led work on global economic competitiveness including trade, intellectual property, international finance, energy, internet governance, internet freedom, cybersecurity and cyberwar. Paul Monteiro served in the Washington, D.C. office of Senator Barack Obama then transitioned to his presidential campaign headquarters in Chicago the following year. After the 2008 election, Monteiro joined the White House staff as an associate director of the Office of Public Engagement and coordinator of the White House Mentorship Program for young men attending local high schools.
