I lead Plus One Tree Initiative, an organization dedicated to reversing land degradation, enhancing biodiversity, and building climate resilience through sustainable land restoration. Driven by firsthand experience with deforestation and unsustainable land-use practices in my home community, I focus on evidence-based reforestation solutions, including the production of high-quality tree seedlings to support large-scale restoration efforts. With a background in Environmental Studies, my work integrates tree propagation, ecosystem restoration, and community engagement to ensure degraded landscapes are rehabilitated and protected for future generations.

Kenyaโs land is heavily affected by desertification, partially due to multi-year droughts which impact the livelihood, agricultural production and livestock of the 54 million Kenyan people severely. To combat this, the Kenyan country team has crafted a 2024 roadmap that aligns with the countryโs spatial planning framework as part of Kenya Vision 2030. Kenya also launched the โ15 billion Treesโ ten-year initiative in 2022 to reverse deforestation, lower greenhouse emissions and restore degraded landscapes. Utilizing geospatial data for sustainable land use planning is a key strategy to halt land degradation and ensure the sustainable use of land resources in Kenya.
